Toggle what your business already has. Watch the ring fill. Get a plain-English list of what is missing and how to fix each gap online — most take minutes, not days.

Is there property that could be used as security?
2. What do you already have?

What is an online-ready score?

Applying for a business loan online in New Zealand is quick when the information lines up and slow when it does not. The online-ready score is a simple way to see, before you start, how many of the usual sticking points you have already dealt with. It looks at seven things lenders and specialists ask about in almost every online application — plus property details when security is involved — and weights them by how often they cause delays.

It is deliberately not a credit score. It does not guess whether you will be approved, and it does not look at your credit history. It measures readiness: whether the documents and settings an online application relies on are in place.

How is the score worked out?

Each item carries a weight. Bank data carries the most, because it is the evidence nearly every lender reads first. Accounting records, GST, your Inland Revenue position and digital ID follow. Company details and account security round it out. If you do not use accounting software, that item is removed from the calculation rather than counted against you — many lenders work from bank statements alone. If property might be offered as security, a property-details item is added.

ItemWeightTypical online fix time
Bank statements available online20About 10 minutes
Xero or MYOB reconciled1515 minutes to a few evenings
GST returns filed15About 10 minutes per return
IRD account in order15About 10 minutes to download or request an arrangement
Digital ID ready155 minutes (longer if renewal is needed)
NZBN and company details current10About 5 minutes
Two-factor authentication on10About 10 minutes
Property details to hand (if relevant)10About 10 minutes

Fix times are illustrative. A Xero file six months behind is a weekend job, not a quarter-hour; an expired passport needs a renewal before an online ID check will pass.

What does each score band mean?

  • 85 to 100 — launch-ready. Your enquiry should move straight into the online steps with few follow-up requests.
  • 60 to 84 — nearly there. One or two fixes will save days later. Do them now, or enquire and fix them in parallel.
  • 30 to 59 — warming up. Start with the highest-weighted gaps. You can still enquire; expect a few more questions.
  • Under 30 — getting started. That is fine. Send the enquiry anyway and a specialist will help you prioritise.

Should you wait for a perfect score before enquiring?

No. The 60-second enquiry needs none of these items and runs no credit check. Many businesses enquire first and tidy up while the specialist explains which items the chosen lender actually needs. The score is there to help you avoid surprises, not to gatekeep. If you want a tailored file list next, try the document upload checklist, or read how to get application-ready in one hour.

Why does the suggested route change?

The amount, purpose and security you choose shape which online product is likely to fit. Unsecured options for trading businesses typically run from $5,000 to $500,000; property-secured lending runs from $20,000 to $5,000,000. Slow-paying business customers point towards invoice finance; seasonal gaps towards a line of credit; tax arrears towards a conversation about clearing IRD debt. The suggestion is a starting point for the conversation, not a decision.

Online-ready score: questions

What does the online-ready score measure?

How prepared your business is to complete an online business loan application without delays: company details, bank data, accounting records, tax position, identity documents, account security and, if relevant, property details. It is not a credit score and not a prediction of approval.

Does using the tool affect my credit file?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you toggle is sent anywhere or stored, and no credit check is involved.

What score do I need before applying?

You can enquire at any score. A higher score simply means fewer follow-up requests and a faster process. The 60-second enquiry itself needs none of these items.

Why does property change the checklist?

Property-secured loans need extra information — title owners, existing mortgage balance and a rates notice — so the tool adds that item when you say property may be available.

I am not GST registered. What should I tick?

Tick the GST item. Businesses under the $60,000 turnover threshold are not required to register, so there is nothing to file.

Is the suggested route a loan offer?

No. It is a general pointer based on the amount, purpose and security you selected. A specialist confirms what is realistic after reading your enquiry.

No credit check to enquire

Sending the online enquiry leaves your credit file untouched. A credit check only comes up later, if you choose to go ahead.

Not sprayed to a list

Your enquiry is not auctioned off or fired at a dozen lenders. One team reads it and matches it to a sensible option.

A human behind the screen

A real lending specialist reviews what you send and calls you. Honest, accurate form answers mean the first match is the right one.

Score done? Send the 60-second enquiry.

Whatever your score, the enquiry runs no credit check, goes to one team rather than a lender free-for-all, and is read by a real person. Answer it accurately and we will tell you which gaps actually matter for your lender.
